San Francisco street musician - Doctor Sparkles

What a pleasure to meet Doctor Sparkles! It was around 10:00 PM in San Francisco and I was planning to come back when I was stopped by an eye-popping, dancing, fluttering figure of a newt playing the ukulele. Finding his job where his heart is, Doctor Sparkles has been playing on the streets for about two years, accompanied by his wife. The pair, close to Halloween, dressed as newt and a witch, was a complete contrast to the serious looks of all other jazz players I have met while working on this documentary (San Francisco Street Musicians Project on photoduniya.com).

San Francisco street musician - Dan Dan

Dan Dan is a Chinese exchange student and has been in California for a couple of years. Coming from Beijing, Dan Dan is a relatively young face amongst the other street musicians. But you should hear her play! An expert in Chinese traditional stringed instruments, Dan Dan enthralled the crowed with such melodious music.

San Francisco Street Musicians - Henri

The Jimmy Hendrix Experience, the group also calls themselves Experience This. Shown here is the lead singer Henri. Singing to the bystanders in Powell and Market, the group always attracts a lot of attention, swaying to the beats and the songs of Henri, Rob and Johnny.

San Francisco street musician - pipa player

An exchange student to the USA from Beijing, China, Dan Dan finds time on some weekends to play the pipa. She has been playing for over a decade now though she is quite new to the streets of San Francisco. So while she isn’t busy working or studying, she makes to Chinatown for a few hours in the evenings to play.
