There are several ways to make money from your online pictures. This is probably the easiest way to make money from all the pictures you have online – either hosted on your own website / blog or on other places (like Flickr for example).

This involves no selling and you don’t even have to spend money on marketing. You simply show advertisements on your photos, like how Google does on YouTube videos, and you make money from ad clicks.

This is a passive way to monetize all the hundreds of pictures you may already have – each could turn into a money maker for you instantly!

Click Here to Read About Making Money from Photos Passively.

The implementation is very simple and all you need to do is to put in your custom advertising code. And you don’t need to know any computer programming either!

As long as you can display your own pictures, you can make money from the advertisements you show. Google realized the immense potential of such ads & hence have stopped online photo & video publishers from using this technique. Instead, now Google shows these ads on all videos hosted on YouTube & they get to make money!

So its your photos & videos & Google makes all the money!

This Photo Video Ads Plugin Script can be used as easily on your videos as well. You can show ads on videos that you are embedding on your website or blog & make all the money that you have had Google make from them!

Don’t let you online photos & videos sit idle any more. Don’t let others make money from your online pictures & videos while you get nothing! Start making money & increase your income from your pictures on websites & blogs now!

Nikon D700 is probably hitting the shops in UK on June 30 2008. Digital Depot, a reputed online camera stores, announced that that last week. And so did Photographica (posted here with the Nikon D700 price listed.)

The rumors about Nikon D700 suddenly picked up a couple of weeks back with pictures & news running all over the internet. The stories mainly came in from Chinese websites. But UK was the first to make a sensible announcement with a date & a specs list. Although the prices have been taken down to avoid confusion, the news of Nikon D700 news is now holding back potential Nikon D300 buyers.

Here is a snapshot of the UK shop announcing the arrival of Nikon D700 for sale.

You can check the prices on Digital Depot website by the first week of July. The specs released by Nikon to another UK retailer mentions that the Nikon D700 is a hybrid of the Nikon D300 & the costlier Nikon D3. It also mentions that the new Nikon D700 is a 12.1 mega pixels full frame camera.

Here are the other features released to some of the reputed UK retailers:

36×23,9mm CMOS sensor FX format 12,1mp effective

RGB Color filter array, build in low pass filter

EXPEED processor, 14-bit

NEF, NEF+jpeg, TIFF, Jpeg file formats

Auto crop when using DX lenses. All other lenses usable.

51 point AF, 15 cross type sensors

Live view mode

3D Colormatrix II metering modes

ISO 100 – 25600

CF card slot FAT32

Accu and grip same as MB-D10 (from D300)

Nikon is yet to come out with a press release, but shops in UK believes that it will happen sometime on July 1 2008. And most of them have already started to stake in orders for the new Nikon D700. You can also order your Nikon D700 here at the danish dealer Photografica.

For a price list released by Photografica earlier & now removed, see post on Journal Image.

A few cameras seem to be rolling from one hand to another.

While Ken Rockwell seems to have published another picture of Nikon D700 on his website too, there has been no confirmation from Nikon or any of the large Nikon USA dealers on a possible date of release.

Meanwhile, the specifications of the rumored Nikon D700 is also shared on the internet.

Here is what came in from Ken Rockwell.

The specs, listed here are quite impressive. Although there is no mention of the price here, it is said that the prices would be comparable to the Canon top-of-the-line Mark 3 cameras.

While people are spending hundreds for the latest designer clothes on one hand, just on the other side of Times Square, another group of tourists is paying anything between two to five dollars to the naked cowboy’s agent to have a picture with him.

As for the video, its am amazing 90 minutes if you are interested in film making, photography, traveling or saving the wildlife, and the delicate eco-system. But more than just that, it re-instates in us the feeling of worthy selflessness and the incredible strength one needs to have to stand up for a cause.

Since I posted my pictures from the cross country drive from California to New York New England, many of you have asked me how to take such pictures, what did I use and similar questions. Before I begin to explain, I must say that such photography is risky. You would be traveling at high speeds and all your attention should be on the road. So I would not recommend it to you, unless you are in the passenger seat or in the navigator’s seat.

.

Taking pictures while driving at high speeds is very similar to taking the picture of a deer running very fast from where you are standing. I have used three techniques for all those pictures.

.

1) For pictures where I did not have something in front of me to lock-focus, I set the focus manually at infinity, and set the shutter speed at over 100 for most of them.

.

2) For pictures where I had an object in front of me, like a vehicle or a sign post or a high land, I locked-focus and took the picture.

.

3) For pictures of landscapes, I again set the focus at infinity and shot through the wind shield.

.

All the pictures are taken through the windshield, with the camera held up high enough to avoid the bonnet. Note that none of those pictures have been cropped (they have been re-sized for sharing over the internet). So did I miss any shot? Yes, certainly. There is a certain amount of unpredictability with taking these sort of pictures. But since I have been doing it for long, I could get 8 or more good pictures from 10 gates.

.

The camera was Nikon D200 and I had used a wide angle lenses from 17 mm all though 120 mm. The higher the focal length, the better the composition and lesser chance of getting your car’s bonnet in the frame. But that also increases the chances of camera shake. You got to do the balance somewhere in between.

.

Since they were all taken from behind the windscreen, I did not use any flashlight. The ISO was held between 100 & 200 so as to get sufficient resolution in case I needed to crop.

Its been a week since the PMA 2008 and the news of Nikon’s new camera and lenses have already flooded the markets. The new D60, another 10 megapixels digital camera for the amateurs, with in-camera photo editing capabilities and an auto dust cleaner. Priced at about US 700.00 dollars for the camera it is on the higher end for the amateurs.

.

Along with that Nikon also rolled out 3 new lenses. Though the new VR tele lenses (500mm et all) are yet to hit the shelves in US, the new ones probably will be retailed sometime in June or July 2008.

.

The AF-S DX Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens – this is a G lens, which makes it usable only on the electronic cameras. The focal range is very attractive for street shots and travel photography. And then there is the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED is more of a close up lens, but the specifications say that the nearest focus point is 0.6 feet – and that isn’t quite attractive. But if you’re using a 1.5x crop camera, you could still get a good magnification for the distance. This is again a G lens, which makes it quite difficult to use on the manual cameras.

.

I would be very interested in the PC-E NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D ED lens. With its tilt shift capability and the wide angle is a good make. Although,if you’re using a low end camera with a 1.5x crop, you will not benefit from the wide angle (effective focal length on a D200 or a D300 is 36mm). But put it on a D2X or a D3 and you have some powerful composition at hand! It is nice though that Nikon has relaunched the Perspective control lens again. The 85 mm PC lens is still available, and this is a welcome addition for the serious photographers.

Nikon announced the launch of Nikon D60, a 10.2 megapixels camera, today with a street price of about USD 700.00. The camera has been launched in Europe today & is supposed to hit the US shelves by March 2008.

.

With the D80, D40 & the D40x targeted at the same market segment of amateurs & advanced amateurs, the camera bears a significant trend of the market – help more in-camera processing & reduce the dependency on a computer. In terms of technology though, it bears the same high level of Nikon techniques as in any other along with an advanced dust cleaning mechanism. People have been known to depend on their computer mostly for (a) cleaning up images (b) changing saturation levels & (c) cropping. Having an advanced dusting mechanism would certainly help those who would prefer to spend more time with the camera than with the software!

Tip: The most difficult part of a street portrait is not other than having the right background. Unless you are carry a 2.8 or faster lens, the distraction of the background is usually too high. You cannot do much about it other than changing the perspective or shooting effectively with flash. In this case, the background was muted by a glass wall. However, if you are an expert in digital photo tools like Adobe Photoshop ™ you could improve the bokeh through layer manipulations.

National Geographic published an article back in January 2006 on the grandeur of the Grand Canyons. The article, aptly named, The Unexpected Canyon (http://www7.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0601/feature3/), with photographs from Mike Nichols, reveals the immense possibility of challenges and discoveries that the canyons still hold for us. Apart from being a geological treasure chest that reveals of our past and evolution, the grand canyon has been a strong beckon to tourists, explorers, hikers, naturalists and climbers for ages. The fact that US government has preserved the land in its own shape and form and the land requires some amount of hardship to reach and explore, probably raised the charm amongst the visitors.

But business and the lure of exploitation could not keep away from this treasure spot for long. The sky walk, built by Californian businessman David Jin, was envisioned in 1996 and finally open to the public in March – April 2007. Charging $25 per visitor, this is planned to be a strong attraction for tourists. David Jin would collect the money for 25 long years (averaging a low of 100 visitors a day, this could be as much as $ 60 million dollars).

While on one hand lies the question of the Hualapai tribe using their priveledges to rent the land for income (they will own the skywalk while David Jin keeps half the money for himself), on the other side, lies the technical ability of the structure to hold on safely for so long. The 70 feet walk, hanging 4000 feet over the Colorado River on the Grand Canyon, is built by steel and glass drilled 40 feet into the porous canyon walls.

Read the article on National Geographic here. The original article read “It’s the most iconic of American landscapes, yet the Grand Canyon still has the power to surprise.” As long as the bridge is the last of such surprises, its good news. And as long as another amusement park does not invest another few millions to create roller coasters, I guess, we are happy.

For those of you who have not heard his name, Dr. Alan Rabinowitz is the Director of Science and Exploration for the Wildlife Conservation Society . It’s a Bronx Zoo based wildlife nurturing and ecological preservation agency that does world wide researches and undertakes preservation and conservation initiatives.

I recently saw one of the documentaries by Dr Alan Rabinowitz made by the National Geographic Society – titled In Search of the Jaguars. It details the life and the heroic work of Dr Alan from his early days growing up in Brooklyn, NY to the rest of his life spent in an undying effort to save the Jaguars in Central America.

Although the Jaguar project of Central America has taken up the most of Dr Alan’s better life, he is also known to discover the smallest deer species – the leaf deer and communicating with the Tarons – the Mongolian pygmies who faced near extinction. The documentaries are published in his book “Beyond the Last Village“.

While you read and see his work, you get to realize what an immense source of strength this person had been throughout his life. Refusing to give up at daunting challenges, he has fought over twenty five years of his life for the safety and preservation of some of the most fragile species and cultures of our planet.

Today, while his Jaguar project has gained some momentum and has interested similar minded conservationists, Dr Alan Rabinowitz is facing a harsh reality. He has been diagonized with Leukemia. But not deterred by his physical challenges, Dr Alan Rabinowitz continue to lead the conservation initiatives till today.

You could read more about him on the web at Save the Jaguar. As a last note, the Wildlife Conservation Society runs completely from donations and some of their most critical projects are funded out of donations from people who want to save this planet.

Upholding their banner of “trustworthiness and creativity“, Nikon is going to celebrate it’s 90th anniversary in July 2007. Founded in 1917 as Nippon Kōgaku; the company was renamed Nikon Corporation, after its cameras, in 1988. Nikon is one of the Mitsubishi companies.

Celebrating this occasion, the President Michio Kariya laid a clean vision for the next decade – “Our Aspirations – Meeting needs. Exceeding expectations” as Nikon steadily moved ahead to its 100 birthday.

Nikon will retain it’s brand logo of the hashed yellow square, meant to represent “Transforming imagination into creativity“. The sequential white rays symbolize “infinite possibilities within the domain of optics” while the yellow has an emotional significance of “depth” and “passion“. The bold black name of Nikon within the logo emphasizes the solid “trust” and the “commitment” of the company.

Quite truly, Nikon has evolved as an institution of creativity. Starting with the F mount cameras in 1959, and the 3D color matrix metering of the early 2000, Nikon has shelved competition from Canon, Sony and Panasonic. Albeit the staunch followers of Nikon are more than willing to bear the high prices for the quality they offer.

To match the camera, the digital back comes with impressive writing speed of 300 MB/sec & an ISO range from 500 to 10,000 ASA. The special sensor is produced by DALSA Corporation exclusively for Seitz.
SanDisk has aggressively produced CF cards to go along with such a massive electronic device. In 2006 Photokina it launched the 12 GB and 16 GB Extreme III CF cards with writing speeds of 20 MB/sec. Not to mention the cost that pro’s shell out for such gadgets – a whopping USD 800.00 for the 12 GB and USD 1050.00 for the 16 GB.

And yes, with such a capacity, you can shoot without the worry of running out of space!

I have been shooting a lot again, and that’s wonderful. And I am shooting film again and the new digital baby has started to gather dust – which is not so wonderful. While I have shot for a few days with the long Nikon 400 mm VR, with the blooming of the flowers and the colors all around, quite by instinct, I have taken out my film cameras again.

Earlier this year, it was a little upsetting to hear that Fuji will not be making the Velvia any more. Lately I found out that Fuji has started shipping Velvia again, though at this time, its only the 100 ASA thats been shipped. I am hoping that the 50 ASA will appear soon again!

So I am back to the field, shooting a lot of Californian poppies and the wild flowers. This year, the wild flowers have not bloomed as much – and from the reports that I have been reading on NatureAli, the south California has not seen much wild flowers either. People who have visited the Gorman Hills and spots around Highway 5 have come back quite disappointed.

There are a lot of mustard though – in the east bay region, apart from the bright patches of mustard you would see on the Hills around Sunol, the wide open land around the Dumbarton Bridge is completely covered in the yellow carpet.

So I am out shooting with my F5 and my faithful old F100 again, and this time my bag is packed with Provia!

I posted this article on my website a few weeks back and I am posting it here to raise some more awareness to save the Metalmark Butterflies:

Also called the Lange’s Metalmark after late William H Lange Jr., the UC Berkeley entomologist and UC Davis professor, who first identified this butterly in 1930, this grey metallic colored, spotted butterfly with a wingspan of about 1 to 1.5 inches, is fast becoming extinct! The Metalmark, from the Riodinidae family, is one of the first insects to be protected by the US Endangered Species Act since 1976. The peak count stood at 45 adults in mid 2006 from 232 in 2005 and a high of 2,342 in 1999.

In a similar situation, the Palos Verdes blue butterfly, a Southern California local species once thought to be extinct, was revived by habitat improvement and captive breeding. Similar approach is taken to save and revive the about to be extinct Metalmark. Once quite popular throughout the central and northern Californian region, the Metalmark is now only found in the Antioch Dunes National Park. The revival process is slow and tedious, made even more difficult by the facts that it’s breeding ground is shrinking every day and it can only produce one generation in a year.

The adults lay eggs at the base of buckwheat stems during late summer, during August & September. The eggs hatch into larvae during the rainy season and are known only to feed on the buckwheat. With wild fire burning down large areas of buckwheat every year, the larvae dies of starvation. For the ones who survive, mature from caterpillars into butterflies in mid to late summer. Such a long gestation and maturity period makes breeding in captivity of this species even more challenging.

At the time of writing this article, Feb 24 2007, I have only seen one Metalmark in the Don Edward Wildlife Refuge. I could not take its picture! I was patiently waiting to see it pair up with another one, but it fluttered all alone!

The approximate $250,000 grant from the Central Valley Project Conservation Program for the Metalmark’s revival is to be run at the San Diego Zoo’s Beckham Center for Conservation Research in Escondido.
